Farmers by Blood

Cause and effect, how Farmers were left out of the equation

The Downstream Effects of India’s Green Revolution

An Unlikely Success: Demonstrations Against Farm Laws in India

Farmers peacefully protested against 3 Govt imposed bills with one goal in mind: minimum guaranteed prices for all crops. Thousands of farmers, not just from Punjab but all over India, staged sit ins and protests fight for their right to earn an honest wage.

Revisiting the Impacts of the Green Revolution in India

In order to address the food shortages of the time, the Indian Govt tasked Punjab with taking on the 'Green Revolution', where things like pesticides, mono-crop farming, and stubble burning were introduced. Today over 50 years later, all of these initiatives have proved dangerous and harmful to both the longevity of farming, and everyones health. The combination of these things caused a financial burden on farmers forcing them to be reliant on purchasing pesticides, turnover crop quicker, and dig deeper for water.

Farming today

How Some Farmers are choosing to break the cycles they've been pushed into

Many Punjabi farmers want to go back to the old era of farming where they were cycling crops to keep the soil healthy, and not relying on harmful chemicals and pesticides. However, the vicious cycle of lackluster govt support, and the need to pay off debt keeps them from breaking patterns.

A pattern of farmer suicides in Punjab: Unearthing the Green Revolution

An alarming rate of farmer suicides happens in India due to hopelessness and rising debt, Punjab having one of the highest counts per state.

What we can do to support..

- Lets talk to our local farmers. Learn what they need, and help create community. No one should be alone in this upward battle.

Why India farmers are protesting again

- Continue to show up and protest. To this day farmers are having to continuously fight for a livable pay, with nothing but false promises being given.

- Start the conversation in other communities, spread awareness. We can join other farmer movements and get connected, this is not just an area specific issue. Farmers feed the world, and farmer protests are a global issue.
